Doyle to Lead Forum on Chinese Trade and Investment in Midwest

As Chair of Great Lakes Governors, Will Host Chinese Delegation in Chicago

Governor Jim Doyle, Chair of the Council of Great Lakes Governors, will lead The Forum on Chinese Trade and Investment in the Great Lakes Region on Monday, May 14, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in Chicago.  Governor Doyle will host the gathering of business and government leaders from the U.S. and China as they work to develop trade and economic development opportunities.

“China is home to one of the fastest growing economies in the world,” Governor Doyle said.  “As we look for ways to continue to create jobs and grow our state’s economy, it’s vital we use these opportunities to attract investments from promising trade partners.  It’s a good thing if a Wisconsin company finds a strong partner in China, or creates jobs in Wisconsin through exports or sales operations in these countries.”

This September, Governor Doyle is leading the largest delegation of Wisconsin business and government leaders to China and Japan to meet with distributors, potential customers, and key business and government officials.  The Governor will also promote investment by Japanese and Chinese companies in Wisconsin.

The Forum in Chicago will bring government and business leaders from across the Great Lakes region together with Madame Ma Xiuhong, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Commerce in China, to sign major new U.S.-sourced purchase agreements, and explore opportunities for new Chinese investment in the Great Lakes region.
