Madison, Wis. — Healthcare executives are re-evaluating their information technology
strategies due to shortages of software professionals, limited budgets and the challenges of
realtime patient care.
Now, the leaders of the major healthcare institutions of Wisconsin and national experts are
convening May 9-10 to discuss the strategies that will allow them to continue delivering quality
care while navigating the complex technologies now available. This isn’t just about technology –
business, legal and ethical issues all play a part.
Agenda highlights include:
• Judy Falkner, founder and CEO of Epic Systems, will make a rare appearance as part of
a panel discussing Madison hospitals’ exchange of health information. She will be joined
by executives of UW Hospital and Clinics and Meriter Hospital, two of the institutions
who are setting up compatible systems to effectively share records.]
• John Wade, chair-elect of the national Healthcare Information and Management
Systems Society, an influential 20,000-member industry group, will deliver a groundlaying
keynote.
• Fred Kron, professor of medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a
screenwriter, will change the pace with an interactive discussion on using simulations and
gaming to train clinicians.
