CONFERENCE HONORING MORGRIDGE CENTER ANNIVERSARY SLATED FOR MARCH 9, 10

MADISON – On Friday and Saturday, March 9 and 10, the Morgridge Center for Public Service at the University of Wisconsin-Madison will celebrate a decade of achievement at its 10th anniversary conference, titled “Celebrating the Many Faces of Public Service at UW-Madison.”

The conference will focus on UW-Madison’s past as a leader in public service, as well as the current accomplishments and goals of the Morgridge Center.

“We are proud the Morgridge Center is celebrating its 10th anniversary and that we have been a catalyst for civic engagement, but we also want to recognize past service at the university,” says Mary Rouse, former director of the Morgridge Center and assistant vice chancellor emerita. “The Morgridge Center is a relatively new tributary in a long and rich river of service by our students and staff. We want to celebrate the many faces of service at the university that goes back to the late 1800s.”

The conference will open with an overview of service by the center’s faculty director, Michael Thornton, followed by a welcome from center founders Tashia and John Morgridge. Speeches and presentations will be made by UW-Madison students, professors and prominent community service leaders, such as David Eisner, CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service, and Maureen Curley, president of national Campus Compact. On the evening of March 9, there will be a special dinner with Henry McKoy, the Peace Corps regional director for Africa.
