This summer SC Johnson, the makers of OFF! (R), set out to find what most frustrates women when it comes to summer beauty. The results showed that the majority of those polled (74 percent) said that anything related to bugs (i.e. bites, rashes, wearing smelly or greasy bug spray) was the biggest summer beauty-buster, even compared to sunburns (41 percent) and smeared make-up (32 percent). The survey also revealed that approximately two-thirds of women think that when it comes to romantic dates, visible bug bites and smelling like bug spray is more embarrassing than frizzy or flat hair.

Even though 70 percent of women said they don’t like wearing clothing to avoid bugs, the thought of bug bites and applying greasy bug spray might deter even the most fashion-focused females from showing some skin this summer.

Rebecca Borman(2), former Survivor contestant, and make-up artist on The View shares her approach to summer beauty.

“Regardless of their individual summer activities and phase of life, women have a universal interest in looking and feeling beautiful all summer long. Summer beauty starts with the skin and nothing ruins beautiful skin or is more unattractive than insect bites and wearing greasy, smelly bug spray,” said Borman(2).

To help woman prevent mosquito bites and other summer skin beauty-busters, Borman(2) offers these quick and easy tips to summer-proof their beauty routines:

  — Stay hydrated. Drink at least eight glasses of water a day and more
when you are outside. Drinking water moisturizes your skin from the
inside out. Water is essential to maintaining elasticity and helps
prevent dryness.
— Avoid bug bites and repel insects. Ninety-two percent of the women
surveyed want an insect repellent that’s light and quick-drying.
— This summer, the makers of Skintastic(R) created a solution and
introduced OFF! (R) FamilyCare Smooth & Dry. Made from a unique
cornstarch formula, it dries on contact and doesn’t leave behind
anything more than a pleasant tropical scent and dry and smooth
skin. It’s feel-good, worry-free mosquito protection.
— It’s hip to be tan but not at the risk of sunburn and heat rash. Use a
high-quality liquid or powder bronzer to give your skin a healthy
summer glow.
— It’s important to have some protection from the sun’s rays. Always wear
a sunscreen with at least SPF 15. Look for brands that spray on and are
both sweat and waterproof.
— Keep purse-sized facial blotting tissues handy to blot away excess oil
and sweat from your forehead and face.

“Whether you are a busy on-the-go mom or an active single — nothing should prevent women from feeling confident, and beautiful this summer,” said Kelly Semrau, SC Johnson Vice President of Global Public Affairs and Communication. “New OFF!(R) FamilyCare Smooth & Dry is the perfect addition to a woman’s summer beauty regimen. It’s a staple in my make-up bag and part of my daily routine. It prevents against unsightly bug bites without interrupting my most important summer social appointments.”
