Budget Funding Critical for Bio Industry

Governor’s $30 Million Will Spur Development in Wisconsin

MILWAUKEE – Growing Wisconsin’s Bio Industry continues to be a top priority of the Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance (WBIA).

“It’s easy to talk about growing the Bio Industry in the state, but by putting the funding in place, state officials have demonstrated a real commitment towards achieving this goal,” said Alexander Samardzich, Chairman of the WBIA. “We need to make sure the funding stays in place.”

Back in January, Governor Doyle made this commitment in his State of the State Address, calling for $30 million for grants and loans for companies that are developing Bio Industry-related technologies in the state.

“You’d be hard pressed to find a state investment that has had the rate of economic return that the Bio Industry has had,” said Samardzich.  “This money will create new jobs, provide markets for our farmers, and bolster the local economy by producing renewable power, fuel and products in Wisconsin. Preserving this money in the budget is essential if we want to position Wisconsin as a national leader in the Bio Industry.”

The Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance is a diverse group of businesses, environmental groups, and statewide and local organizations that have come together to build both public and legislative awareness of the Bio Industry in Wisconsin.
