MILWAUKEE—On Saturday, August 5, 2006 Westside Healthcare Association, Inc. (WHA) will sponsor its third annual Health Fest as part of its ongoing effort to inform, educate and empower the community to adopt healthier lifestyle behaviors.
Health Fest will take place at Lisbon Avenue Health Center, 3522 W. Lisbon Ave, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. This free event will feature fun for the entire family, including free health screenings, backpacks filled with school supplies and other prizes. Health information and community resources will also be available and the entire Milwaukee community is encouraged to attend this event.

Westside Healthcare Association’s service area is designated as a Medically Underserved Area (MUA) and is home to approximately 70,000 persons. Over 72% of the people in this area live below the Federal Poverty Level. Thirty-six census tracts situated in the western section of the inner city define the service area. Of these tracts, 13 are defined as primary care Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSA-’s).
WHA’s healthcare facilities also include the Hillside Family Health Center located on the 2nd floor of the Hillside Family Resource Center – 1452 N. 7th Street. The Lisbon Avenue and Hillside Family Health Centers utilize a sliding fee scale and are committed to serving the underserved and uninsured. WHA’s comprehensive service delivery model will continue to have a positive impact on the health disparities experienced by its patient population.
