UW-Madison: ResearchChannel Programs Available to Charter Digital Cable Subscribers

MADISON – Subscribers to Charter Digital Cable now have access to University of
Wisconsin-Madison programming on ResearchChannel as video on demand (VOD).

The service, which began July 1, enables Charter’s local digital cable viewers to
see UW-Madison programming, including lectures, forums, research reports and other
research programs at any time.

“ResearchChannel is a perfect fit with the values and traditions of UW-Madison,”
says Ken Frazier, interim chief information officer at UW-Madison. “Much like the
‘University of the Air’ that was developed at Wisconsin during the early days of
radio, this programming will extend the reach of the university far beyond our
borders.”

UW-Madison has been a participating member of ResearchChannel for several years and
is a regular programming contributor. Among the recently produced programs
initially available on demand on Madison Charter Digital Cable are:

– “Astronomy from the Edge of Space”: A documentary featuring UW-Madison Space
Astronomy Laboratory scientists working with suborbital rockets.

– “Vitamin D: The New Old Natural Wonder Drug”: A lecture by Hector DeLuca, a
professor of biochemistry, on the discovery and applications of vitamin D.

– “Singing Myself a Lullaby”: A documentary by Douglas Rosenberg and Ellen Bromberg
on the late dancer John Henry.

– “Women in Science and Engineering Leadership Institute (WISELI): Building on a
Legacy”: A look at WISELI’s creation and new efforts to recruit, retain and advance
women in academic science and engineering.

“Having ResearchChannel programs on Charter VOD helps scholars and researchers share
the latest research findings and discoveries with an even wider audience. Lectures,
interviews and documentaries from leading institutions, such as UW-Madison, let
viewers hear firsthand, directly from the researchers themselves,” says Amy
Philipson, executive director of ResearchChannel.

Ten new programs will be added to the Charter VOD selection each month, and the
entire ResearchChannel video library – more than 3,000 titles – is available anytime
online at

ResearchChannel is a nonprofit media and technology organization that connects a
global audience with the research and academic institutions whose developments,
insights and discoveries affect people’s lives and futures. ResearchChannel was
founded in 1996 by leading research and academic institutions so they could share
the work of their researchers with the public while collectively participating in
advanced distribution and interactive technology experiments. Programs are shared in
their original form, unmediated and without interruption. Today, more than 50
institutions participate as members and affiliates, and that number continues to
grow.
