Three-county market boasts $1.2 billion tourism industry

GREEN BAY—The Packerland Playbook, a monthly visitor guide established in Green Bay in 2004, has expanded to Door County and the Fox Cities to better serve the area’s $1.2 billion tourism industry.

After nearly two years covering greater Green Bay and Brown County, Playbook Publisher Nick Wood said it’s clear that tourism doesn’t stop at county lines, but extends throughout Northeast Wisconsin.

“We’ve got three of the state’s top 10 counties for visitor spending right here in our own back yard, and they’re lined up in a row along the highway,” Wood said, referring to Brown, Door and Outagamie counties. “Green Bay is world famous thanks to the Packers, the Door County Peninsula is a top 10 vacation destination in North America, and Appleton and the Fox Cities boast the largest concentration of retail shopping in the state. We’ve got something for everyone here, and it’s all within an easy hour’s drive of Green Bay.”

Featuring great color photos, detailed maps, a current calendar of events and up-to-date hours, prices and information on the area’s attractions, the Packerland Playbook is a handy, pocket-sized guide to fun in Northeast Wisconsin. It’s published 10 times each year and available free at more than 400 high-traffic locations throughout the region.

“Promotion of the whole market is a niche that’s not being well served right now,” Wood said. “If you put yourself in a visitor’s shoes, you don’t care where the county lines are – you care about having fun, seeing the sights and experiencing the local flavor. And if you’re accustomed to rush hour traffic in Chicago or the Twin Cities, the short drive to a gallery in Fish Creek or a restaurant in the Fox Cities only enhances your visit.”

“As a locally-owned, independent publisher, we are committed to helping greater Green Bay, the Door County Peninsula and the Fox Cities be viewed as a world class regional destination,” Wood said. “We want visitors to go home and tell their stories about the great experiences they had here – helping to grow tourism in the future.”
