Oshkosh Truck Named 2006 Diesel Progress Newsmaker of the Year

WAUKESHA, Wis., Dec. 14 /PRNewswire/ — Oshkosh Truck Corp., Oshkosh, Wis. has been named the 2006 Newsmaker of the Year by Diesel Progress magazine. The award, announced in the magazine’s December 2006 issue, is given annually to the company, person, technology, market or industry subject that made the most news in the preceding 12 months.

“When we looked at the possibilities for 2006, Oshkosh clearly stood out,” said Diesel Progress Editor Mike Brezonick. “No one else in the engine- powered equipment markets did a $3.2 billion deal in 2006 as Oshkosh did in buying JLG.”

Oshkosh’s purchase of JLG, McConnellsburg, Pa. was cited as the major news story of 2006 in the OEM engine-powered equipment markets.

“Plus, Oshkosh also bought AK Specialty Vehicles and Iowa Mold Tooling Co.,” Brezonick said. “Oshkosh was busy. They basically doubled the size of the company in one year.”

The award itself will be presented to Oshkosh Truck management in early 2007.

This is the 10th year Diesel Progress has named a Newsmaker of the Year. Previous recipients have included International Truck & Engine (2005), Caterpillar (2003 and 1998), Cummins (2002), Detroit Diesel (2000) and Dana Corp. (1997).

Other candidates for the 2006 Newsmaker of the Year included the truck industry’s ramp up to its landmark 2007 diesel emissions regulations. The whole subject of diesel emissions is always a major newsmaker, with SCR and aftertreatment technologies making a lot of news in 2006. The changes in diesel fuel, the growth in renewable energy sources, and the growth in automotive diesels were also considered.
