KidsCom.com: Kids’ New Year’s Wishes Reflect the Needs of Others

MILWAUKEE, Dec. 28 – After a holiday season filled with $600 gaming systems and sold-out stuffed animals, kids are looking ahead to 2007 and thinking of others, according to a recent poll on KidsCom.com. When asked what their wishes for 2007 were, nearly 75 percent of the kids, put the needs of others– including the soldiers in Iraq, the less fortunate and their own family members– in front of their own.

Since 1995, KidsCom.com has entertained kids ages 8-15, giving them an online outlet to express themselves and learn the skills and attitudes to help them become responsible adults.

“Most of the wishes posted on KidsCom.com were truly heartwarming,” commented Jori Clarke, president of Circle 1 Network, which publishes KidsCom.com. “But some made me laugh, including the child who wished for 200 kittens and puppies for everyone.”

Examples of the wishes include:
– A 12-year-old’s wish: I wish that I would be nicer to girls.
– A 10-year-old’s wish: I wish that everyone I know, and all my relatives
and pets could live forever. But not bad people.
– A 9-year-old’s wish: My wish for 2007 is that kids that do not have
homes and schools can get some.
– A 9-year-old’s wish: I wish I could have a day in the chocolate
factory.
– An 8-year-old’s wish: My biggest magical wish is for everyone is back
home safe, and everyone from the war is safe.
– A 4-year-old’s wish: I wish for beautiful flowers for my mom.

“KidsCom.com material is presented in an atmosphere that encourages kids to develop important qualities for coping, such as patience, persistence and confidence,” said Clarke. “From the looks of these wishes, it’s apparent that our programming is hitting home.”
