Jensen Metal Products: OSHA’s Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP)

RACINE, Wis. – On April 26th, 2006, the Wisconsin OSHA Health Consultation Program <http://www.slh.wisc.edu/wocp/index.php> at the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) will help honor Jensen Metal Products, for achieving the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) award from the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) <http://www.osha.gov/> .

Jensen Metal is a fourth-generation, family-owned company with roots running deep in the Racine community. Since 1922 they have prided themselves on their Danish tradition of hard work and dedication to our business, employees and customers. From blacksmithing in the early 1900’s to the current “state of the art” laser cutting, Jensen Metal has set the pace in service and excellence in the metal industry.

The company’s reputation as a job shop metal fabricator is based on high quality, close tolerance work, with on time delivery. Jensen Metal is a service-oriented company, concentrating their efforts on local and regional businesses.

The voluntary OSHA Consultation Program is jointly administered by the Wisconsin Safety Consultation (WiSCon) Program at the Department of Commerce and the Wisconsin Health Consultation Program at the WSLH. Part of the OSHA Consultation Program, the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) recognizes small employers who operate an exemplary safety and health management system. Acceptance into SHARP by OSHA is an achievement of status as a model for worksite safety and health.

SHARP honors employers that operate top safety and health management systems, while also maintaining an injury and illness rate below the national average for their industry.

Representing the WSLH, OSHA Consultation Program Project Manager Terry Moen and Environmental Health Specialist Kim Dietz will be in the Franksville facility for an award ceremony held in honor of Jensen employees on April 26.

The WSLH staff members joined by regional OSHA professionals and prominent local and state politicians will present Jensen Metal Products with a plaque and banner commemorating the SHARP award at a plant-wide luncheon. Jensen Metal met SHARP requirements by requesting a full-service visit from both the Wisconsin Safety and Health Consultation Programs and correcting all identified hazards to safety and health. It also implemented and maintains an active safety and health management system that includes the broad categories of management commitment, employee involvement, hazard identification and control, and training and evaluation.
