Governor Doyle: Announces $3 Million to Help Save Ripon Foods Plant and Create 100 New Jobs

RIPON – Governor Jim Doyle today announced that Ripon Foods, Inc. will receive $3 million in Enterprise Development Zone tax credits and a $55,000 training grant from the Department of Commerce to save its Ripon plant from closure, and instead upgrade and expand it.  The project will save more than 300 jobs, and is expected to create 100 new jobs over the next two years.

“Today’s announcement is a great example of how the state can work alongside business to increase investment in Wisconsin and its workforce,” Governor Doyle said.  “This is a real success story for the company, the community, and the entire state – and it couldn’t have been done without hard work, cooperation, and a commitment to investing right here in Wisconsin.  Ripon Foods has been a solid corporate citizen of Wisconsin for many years, and I look forward to building on that partnership.”

Last year, Ripon Foods, Inc. considered closing the Ripon plant, which would have resulted in the loss of 317 jobs.  With the help of the Wisconsin Department of Commerce, the company and UNITE HERE union were able to reach agreement and go forward with a project that will not only save the jobs but create new jobs for the area.
