Doyle thanks departing Insurance Commissioner Jorge Gomez

As Insurance Commissioner Jorge Gomez announced his resignation effective mid December, Governor Doyle released the following statement thanking Commissioner Gomez for his hard work and excellent service over the past four years:

“I want to thank Commissioner Gomez for his outstanding service and dedication to Wisconsin citizens as one of the most talented Insurance Commissioners in Wisconsin’s history.

“In the last four years, Commissioner Gomez helped push forward initiatives that followed a long tradition of protecting Wisconsin consumers and maintained our state’s competitive insurance market. From protecting senior citizens from fake long term insurance care packages, to increasing consumer education, to fostering the growth and expansion of insurance companies in Wisconsin, he has shown remarkable skills and dedication as Insurance Commissioner.

“Commissioner Gomez’s talent and dedication helped maintain Wisconsin’s place at the top of the insurance market through an increase in assets of more than $50 billion for Wisconsin insurers in the last four years. His work has also helped Wisconsin offer some of the lowest homeowner insurance rates in the country, as well as the second lowest auto rates in the country. I thank him for all his accomplishments and wish him all the best for his future endeavors.”

Commissioner Gomez will be returning to the private sector. A replacement will be named soon.
