Doyle Announces $272,500 Grant to Village of Unity

MADISON – Governor Jim Doyle today announced that the Village of Unity, Marathon County, will receive a $272,500 Community Development Block Grant-Housing grant from the Department of Commerce (Commerce) for an affordable housing project.

“Affordable housing is a key factor in the continuing growth of a community,” Governor Doyle said.  I am pleased that we could help the Village of Unity find a new use for a vacant building and improve the supply of affordable housing for its residents.”

Local housing agencies have waiting lists for affordable housing units. The Village of Unity is working with the Indianhead Community Action Agency (Indianhead) to use  a former school building to provide additional units. Indianhead has submitted an offer to purchase the 32,000-sq.-ft. building, and intends to renovate it to house 15-18 three-bedroom units. The total project cost is $740,000.
