Attorney General Lautenschlager: Statement Regarding Northwest Airlines v. Wisconsin Department of Revenue

“I am pleased with today’s decision by the Wisconsin Supreme Court which
holds that the tax exemption for Wisconsin-based airlines does not violate
either the United States Constitution or the Wisconsin Constitution.  As
recognized by the Court, this exemption is crucial to the state’s economic
vitality because it both protects existing jobs and attracts new jobs.
Good paying, family supporting jobs are vital to Wisconsin’s long-term
economic well-being, and I am grateful the Wisconsin Department of Justice
is playing an integral role in achieving this goal.  Assistant Attorney
General Mary Burke deserves a special thank you for her diligent advocacy
on behalf of the Wisconsin Department of Revenue.”
