FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MILWAUKEE, Oct. 10, 2005 – West Bend general dentist Dr. Kathleen S. Roth won the election for American Dental Association (ADA) president-elect today at the organization’s annual House of Delegates meeting being held through Oct. 11 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She will be installed as ADA president in October 2006 when the group meets again in Las Vegas.

The not-for-profit ADA is the nation’s largest dental association, representing more than 152,000 members. It is the premier source of oral health information and has advocated for the public’s health and promoted the art and science of dentistry since 1859.

Roth is the second Wisconsin dentist to be elected to lead the national professional dental organization in the last eight years. Dr. S. Timothy Rose of Appleton served as ADA president from October 1998 – October 1999. Dr. Frank F. Shuler of Clinton was the first Wisconsin dentist to serve as ADA president from 1973 – 1974.
Roth most recently served as trustee for the ADA’s Ninth District, which encompasses Wisconsin and Michigan and includes more than 8,400 dentists. She has held numerous leadership posts in local, state, national and international dental organizations since the late 1980s, including president of the Washington Ozaukee County Dental Society in 1990 and the Wisconsin Dental Association (WDA) in 1998 – 1999. She has served on the board for Donated Dental Services, a Wisconsin Dental Foundation program, since1998. Roth was a delegate to the World Dental Congress in 2003 and 2004.

A 1974 Marquette University School of Dentistry graduate, she has been on the Dean’s Advisory Council since 1995 and worked to make the new dental school a reality as a “Get It Done Committee” member. Fellow dentists have welcomed Roth into three honorary professional organizations including the Pierre Fauchard Academy and the American and International Colleges of Dentists.

Roth has practiced general dentistry with her husband Dr. Daniel H. Roth for more than 30 years. She got her start in high school as a dental assistant to Dr. June Dhein. The Roths have two adult children, Sara (Jeff) Isom and Andrew (Julie) and are the proud grandparents of Joseph and Kathleen Isom. Dr. Kathy Roth is the daughter of West Bend residents Neal and Tooty Schleif.

Established in 1870, the WDA is headquartered in Milwaukee. With more than 2,900 members statewide, the WDA represents the vast majority of practicing dentists in Wisconsin. For more information, call 800-364-7646 or 414-276-4520 or visit www.wda.org.
