FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MILWAUKEE – The needs of adult learners in the workplace, continuing education, and community education programs are the topics for an education research-to-practice conference Sept. 28-30 at the Manchester East Hotel and Suites, 7065 N. Port Washington Road. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is hosting the conference, which involves researchers and educators from throughout the Midwest.
The 24th annual Midwest Research to Practice Conference in Adult, Continuing and Community Education will feature research presentations, practitioner presentations, evaluation methods presentations and poster presentations. Topics range from distance education and learning to organizational learning and change. The conference is held each fall at a major Midwestern university. This is the second time the conference has been held in Milwaukee; the first time was in 1994.
”The University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee is thrilled to host this year’s conference”, says Barbara Daley, this year’s conference chair and associate professor in UWM’s adult and continuing education program. “The conference provides a forum for practitioners and researchers to discuss various concepts, practices and research studies with the intent of linking this new knowledge to educational practice. The growth of adult education in the Milwaukee area and at UWM was a major factor in selecting this year’s conference site.”
The UWM School of Education’s Department of Administrative Leadership and Education Outreach is sponsoring the conference. More than 40 papers will be presented on various aspects of adult learning.
Keynote speaker for the conference is Karen Watkins, professor of adult education and human resource development at the University of Georgia. Watkins, who is well-known for her research and writing on workplace learning, will speak at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 29. Conference hours are noon to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29 and 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30.
