OWAA: Outdoor Writers to Offer Half-Day Workshop

Missoula, MONT. – The Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA) is a international organization that represents a diverse group of professional communicators dedicated to sharing the outdoor experience. Headquartered in Missoula, Mont., the nonprofit’s mission is to improve the professional skills of its members, to set high ethical and communications standards, to encourage conservation of natural resources, and to mentor the next generation of professional outdoor communicators.

OWAA will kickoff its 78th annual conference near Madison, Wis., by offering a free, half-day workshop “How to Become an Outdoor Communicator,” Saturday, June 18, from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m., at the Marriott Madison West in Middleton, Wis. Workshop participants are welcome to attend the members-only conference as a guest.

Workshop subjects will include Freelancing for Magazines, Writing for Newspapers, Outdoor Radio Shows, Outdoor Television Shows, Working with Manufacturers, Outdoor Photography, Writing for Travel Publications, Opportunities for Women in the Outdoor Media and Working with Government Agencies.

Workshop presenters will include Midwestern celebrities like Dan Small, Bob Riepenhoff, Tony Dean and Joel Vance, in addition to well-known outdoor communicators from other parts of the country, including Holly Endersby, Scott Mitchell, Jack Ballard, Chip Gross, Peter Schroeder, Mark Freeman and Pat Wray.

No experience is necessary! We all started with just interest and desire. There will be plenty of time for questions and answers. If you would like to attend portions OWAA’s conference as a guest, that can also be arranged.
