H&E Equipment Services Partners with Orion to Offer Advanced Lighting Systems that Guarantee Savings of Up to 50 Percent, Enhance Light and Deliver Positive Environmental Benefits

December 15, 2005. Salt Lake City, UT and Plymouth, WI. H&E Equipment Services, one of America’s largest distributors of heavy equipment, has announced the formation of a new Energy Solutions Division, which will provide energy efficient lighting systems to industrial and commercial facilities in Utah and surrounding areas. Orion Energy Systems designs and manufactures energy efficient lighting systems that deliver electricity savings of 50% while delivering more and better quality light.

H&E ‘s Salt Lake City location has been researching, testing and successfully selling Orion Energy Systems’ products for nearly 2 years, generating positive results, both economically and environmentally. “We discovered that cutting 50% off of our own lighting costs was a fabulous way to remain competitive in our 225,000 square foot warehouse and shop,” stated Dave Heinz, Manager of Industrial Sales for H&E Equipment Services. “After completing our own relamping to the satisfaction of our employees, we thought our industrial and commercial customers would like to have the same opportunity to become more energy efficient, hence we created this new Energy Solutions Division with Bob Worthington as our Sales Director.”

H&E Equipment Services has already done several energy efficient lighting projects, both relamps and retrofits, in the Salt Lake City area, including Utah Plastics, Sport Court International, Inc., Rayloc and LA Chemical to name a few.

“H&E Equipment Services is exactly the kind of high quality, innovative company Orion needs to distribute our energy efficient lighting systems to the Utah business community,” stated Neal Verfuerth, President of Orion Energy Systems. “We expect that Orion and H&E to work closely with Utah utility companies, Utah regulators, the State of Utah government, industrial and commercial customers, and Utah energy efficiency programs to help reduce Utah’s overall demand for electricity.”

In the last year alone Orion lighting systems helped customers save more than $37 million, 75 megawatts and 600 million kilowatt hours (kWh). Based on EPA estimates, Orion’s current installations remove 11.7 million tons of greenhouse gas (carbon dioxide) from the atmosphere over the lifetime of the fixture and will remove 3.2 million tons of carbon. Other savings include the removal of 50,880 tons of sulfur dioxide (SO2), which affects acid rain; 24,540 tons of nitrous oxide (NOX), which is another greenhouse gas, and 444 pounds of mercury. This reduction in electricity usage is the environmental equivalent of removing 1.7 million cars from the road, saving 99.9 million gallons of gas or 23.6 million barrels of oil.

Orion’s innovative Illuminator, an energy-efficient lighting platform for industrial applications, has been awarded a series of 13 patents from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Additionally, Orion has applied for numerous other patents relating to metering and control technologies for lighting. They have received many prestigious manufacturing and environmental awards for their energy efficient and environmentally friendly lighting systems.
“With electricity rates expected to rise significantly, H&E anticipates that many energy-conscious customers will want to take advantage of the dramatic energy savings associated with Orion Systems and the financial incentives offered by Utah Power and Light Company,” said Bob Worthington. “We will help customers take hundreds of megawatts off the Utah grid, enhance our customer’s workplace with better lighting, improve Utah’s environment through large scale energy efficiencies, and finally, help Utah companies cut operating costs to remain competitive.”
