Acquisitions help Onyx further expand its reach in commercial, industrial and

residential waste hauling services

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Onyx Waste Services, Inc. today announced it has closed on acquisitions of three Midwestern waste haulers, the company’s largest series of acquisitions in the last six months.

The largest acquisition is Vasko Disposal Solutions in St. Paul, Minnesota, which includes Vasko Solid Waste, Inc. and Vasko Rubbish Removal. Vasko is one of St. Paul’s leading independent industrial and commercial waste haulers. Among the Vasko operations Onyx acquired are the waste transfer station located at 309 Como Avenue in St. Paul, Vasko’s office building, Vasko’s recycling center and the Vasko hauling and collection operations.

“This acquisition provides Onyx Waste Services with a strategic advantage in building our presence throughout the St. Paul marketplace, specifically in the areas of commercial and industrial services,” said Paul Jenks, president and chief executive officer of Onyx Waste Services, Inc. “This is a significant acquisition for Onyx, and we are proud to have this relationship with a well-respected and community-minded company. Onyx shares those values, and we look forward to continuing to serve the Vasko customers in that same spirit.”

“Acquiring Vasko means we are strengthening our overall position in this market. This ultimately will allow us to better serve our many customers throughout the region,” said Jenks. “We look forward to continuing to build upon the solid tradition of good service Vasko has provided to this community over the last 37 years.”

Additionally, Onyx has acquired assets from two waste hauling companies in Macon and Bethany, Missouri. The assets include the Salt River Refuse Company in Macon, a leading residential waste hauling business; and selected routes from H.D.W. Enterprises, which has residential waste service customers less than 90 miles from Macon in the Bethany area. Both acquisitions will provide additional waste volume to the Onyx Maple Hill Landfill in Macon.

“These acquisitions will continue to help Onyx Waste Services expand its industrial, commercial and residential services in the Midwest, and they also help provide us with a strategic advantage in expanding our presence in two key Onyx markets,” said Jenks. “As one of the leading solid waste management organizations in North America, Onyx is always looking for good ways to grow and better serve our customer base, which now accounts for nearly 1.3 million residences and 128,000 commercial and industrial customers across 11 states, and in the Bahamas and Canada.”

Each of the waste hauling companies acquired is recognized as a respected leader in its local marketplace and complements Onyx’s overall focus as a full-service provider of solid waste solutions, according to Jenks.

“The solid waste management market is constantly changing, and it is important for Onyx to explore opportunities which allow us to intelligently expand our customer base in the markets we serve,” said Jenks. “We are strategic and measured in our approach, and when we make a acquisition and grow, we do so for the right reasons and make choices that allow us to more efficiently serve our customers through a wide variety of services.”
