Behind the scenes at Madison’s best new, women managed restaurant.

Firefly, Madison’s best new Asian restaurant serves up something different for its patrons. It may not be as apparent to diners as their great tasting cuisine, but it’s the driving force of their success: the management team is made up entirely of women – inspired women who bring a combined 25 years of hard work and dedication to your table each night.

Bari Deprey, Firefly’s General Manager, began her restaurant career nearly 15 years ago. She first worked at a modest coffee shop and then quickly moved up the ranks, working at a deli and drive-thru until finally landing a Director of Operations position with a well-known culinary development corporation in Oakland, CA. It was here that she acquired leadership and business skills that would become invaluable as she traveled back to the mid-west. Deprey came to Firefly in November 2003 as the Assistant Manager. Her undying appetite for success earned her the General Manager position in January 2005.

Carisa Dixon, Firefly’s Executive Chef, is about as real as it gets. She has a true passion for cooking that she has cultivated through years of experience and devotion. Dixon claims there was no specific event that ignited her interest in cooking, but through continuous labor has developed a unique style and love for food. Dixon graduated from Johnson & Wales University of Providence, RI with a degree in Culinary Arts. She spent several years at Turtle Soup on Broadway in Providence, RI. While working at Turtle Soup, Dixon was given the title of Executive Chef and the freedom to design and execute a menu all her own. Dixon brings great talent to the team at Firefly.

Victoria Kucher, Firefly’s Assistant Manager, brings her lively personality to the guests at Firefly. Kucher loves the fast-paced adventure of working in the restaurant industry, as there is never a dull moment and every day brings new experiences. Kucher made a promise to herself many years ago that she would always work in a profession that challenged and excited her, and kept her feeling alive from day to day. After two years at Firefly, she says that her promise still holds true. Kucher attributes Firefly’s success to working with a great team of people who keep each other motivated to be their best and never give up.

Firefly is Food Fight’s eighth restaurant. Their pan-Asian menu focuses on the combination of traditional dishes with signature items. For example, dinner offers such traditional items as Spicy Green Curry and Kung Pao Chicken, along with signature dishes like Curry Braised Short Ribs and Thai Hangar Steak. Lunch offers a variety of quick items, such as wraps and salads. And brunch is the perfect combination of French Toast and Egg Scramblers, with unique items such as Smoked Salmon Rolls and Thai Steak and Eggs.
