Madison – Governor Jim Doyle announced today that three local Workforce Development Boards will receive $406,000 in Dislocated Worker grants to assist unemployed workers in finding new employment or new job skills.
A subcommittee of the Governor-appointed Council on Workforce Investment has recommended $405,993 be allocated for local Workforce Development Board efforts.
The Fox Valley Workforce Development Board has received additional $134,717 to augment an existing grant to serve workers from – Riverside Paper, Advanced Data-Comm, Air Wisconsin, Emjay Corporation, Rippin’ Good (Bremner, Inc.), and Westra Construction. A total of 167 workers will be served as a result of the increased funding.
In the Western Workforce Development Area, Workforce Connections, Inc. has received an additional $43,483 to serve additional workers laid off from Trane Company in La Crosse. Funds were added to an existing grant that serves workers from – Northern Automotive, Rayovac, LaCrosse Footwear, Brenner Tank, Invensys (Best Power), Trane, Fleming, and Isola Laminates. A total of 101 workers will be served in the project.
The South Central Workforce Development Board received an additional $227,733 to assist dislocated workers from several area employers, including: Admanco, Applied Molded Products, APV Crepaco, Arimon, Big Joe Manufacturing, and 45 other companies. The grant has also expanded to include workers from Johnson Controls, serving 325 workers.
“Despite recent positive reports of job growth, some Wisconsin workers are still struggling to get back into the workforce in various regions of the state,” Secretary Roberta Gassman said. “This additional funding will provide a continuance of services for these dislocated workers as they seek to further their education or increase their skills to get back into the workforce.”
