MADISON – Governor Jim Doyle today announced grants totaling $581,840 to 23
Southeastern Wisconsin organizations for emergency shelter and transitional
housing programs administered by the Bureau of Housing in the Department of
Commerce (Commerce). Statewide awards totaled $2.5 million for 80 projects.

“These grants will assist groups all over the state update and expand their
facilities and programming,” Governor Doyle said. “With this funding, we
will further our commitment to homeless families – helping them find a place
to live, and become more self-sufficient.”

The HUD Emergency Shelter Grant (ESG) is designed to assist local homeless
programs in increasing the capacity of existing shelters and transitional
housing programs, and developing additional shelters in areas where they do
not exist. The Transitional Housing Grant Program is designed to develop or
expand transitional housing programs and services for homeless individuals
and families.
