Dept. of Commerce: Governor Doyle Announces Funding for Rental Housing Development

MADISON – Governor Jim Doyle today announced grants totaling $978,696 to three non-profit organizations through the HOME Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) Rental Housing Development Program administered by the Department of Commerce (Commerce).

“Expanding access to affordable housing not only helps meet the needs of our citizens, it encourages economic development,” said Governor Doyle. “These grants will further our commitment to helping all Wisconsin residents have a decent, affordable place to live, while helping strengthen community infrastructure to support growth.”

The CHDO Rental Housing Development Program is designed to assist affordable housing development opportunities that include acquisition, rehabilitation, and construction of rental housing for low-income individuals.

The awards are as follows:

CAP Services, Inc., Waupaca, Waupaca County, $534,600
CAP Services, Inc. will develop 18 units of senior rental housing in the City of Waupaca. Foxfire Senior Village will offer single-story living in two buildings and residents will have access to the community room and laundry facilities at the adjacent Waupaca Senior Village.

Hebron House of Hospitality, Germantown, Washington County, $368,496
Hebron House of Hospitality will construct a senior housing campus for individuals fifty-five years or over. This grant will allow it to construct 11 units for low-income seniors.

NEWCAP, Inc., Oconto, Oconto County, $75,600
NEWCAP, Inc. will build an ADA accessible one-bedroom duplex in Oconto. The duplex will be available to low-income elderly individuals who are physically disabled.
