Project Will Create 16 Jobs, Retain 18 Jobs

MANITOWOC – Governor Jim Doyle today announced a $160,000 grant from the Department of Commerce to Musial Paint Finishes, LLC, of Manitowoc to purchase and develop a brownfields site in Manitowoc, creating 16 new jobs, and retaining 18 more.

“With this grant, we will help Musial Paint Finishes grow its business while rehabilitating a brownfields site,” Governor Doyle said. “I am pleased the state can help Musial make this lasting investment and bring new, good paying jobs to Manitowoc.”

This grant will help Musial Paint Finishes, LLC, perform an environmental clean-up of the property and renovate and purchase new equipment for a former Mirro facility located on the site. The total project cost is $1.4 million.

“We are honored to be a recipient of this Commerce grant,” said David Musial, President and CEO of Musial Paint Finishes. “Governor Doyle’s support for the Brownfields Program was crucial in order to revitalize this property.”

Musial Paint Finishes, LLC, is an industrial and commercial painting and coating firm. It is a family-run business that has been in operation since 1975.

The grant is part of the Department of Commerce’s Brownfields Program, which provides assistance to municipalities, local development corporations, and the private sector to support assessment, remediation, and return of contaminated lands to productive use.

Brownfields are abandoned, idle, or underused industrial or commercial properties where redevelopment is hindered by real or perceived contamination. For more information about the Brownfields Program, contact Jason Scott at the Department of Commerce, at 608-261-7714.
