Madison – Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk today announced a proposed contract with the Alliant Energy Corporation for energy improvements at the County’s Alliant Energy Center (AEC).

The improvements will provide AEC more than $50,000 in energy savings the first year (2006). The present value of total energy and operational savings over the next ten years is in excess of $250,000, after paying the project debt service. As part of the contract the energy savings are guaranteed for the first ten years.

The contract provides for $500,000 of Coliseum and Exhibition Hall improvements that include replacing lighting, a lighting control system, installing computer controls on heating & air conditioning systems and other projects.

“These improvements will help the Alliant Energy Center save money in both the short and long term,” said Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk.

The project will also explore the option of becoming LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for existing buildings) rated.

The contract, introduced at the County Board meeting February 3, will be studied County committees. If approved, construction and installation are expected to be completed by the end of 2005.
