MADISON, October 25, 2004 – The State Bar of Wisconsin’s Bench and Bar Committee seeks nominations from both lawyers and the general public for two outstanding jurists to receive judicial awards for their efforts to improve the quality of justice during 2004.
The Judge of the Year Award recognizes jurists who advance the quality of justice through leadership, judicial education, or commitment to innovative programs that benefit the community. Since its inception in 1996, award recipients have exhibited high ideals, personal character and judicial competence while serving the community.
The Lifetime Jurist Achievement Award recognizes an individual with at least 12 years of trial judge experience. Recognizing jurists since 1997, the award honors individuals who have demonstrated long-term judicial excellence and leadership toward improving the quality of justice.
“The State Bar, with input from the public, wants to recognize the important work that the judiciary of Wisconsin performs for this state,” said the Honorable Daniel M. Floeter, Bench and Bar committee chair. “Therefore strongly encourage bar members and the general public to submit letters of nomination for these awards.”
The awards will be presented at the 2005 State Bar Annual Convention, May 4-6, at the Midwest Airlines Center in Milwaukee. The deadline for nominations is Dec. 13, 2004.
