PSC: STATEMENT From PSC Chairperson Burnie Bridge On Wholesale Telephone Rates

“The wholesale telephone rates determined by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin today are fair and balance SBC Wisconsin’s request to be adequately compensated for use of their network with competitors request for an even playing field.

The decision today will continue the Commission’s efforts to foster competition in the telecommunications market in Wisconsin with the goal of providing consumers with more choices at competitive prices.

The impact on consumers will be determined by each telecommunications company’s business decisions. Retail rates are based on a number of factors, including market pressures, federal regulatory decisions and labor issues, to name a few.

The Commission based its decision today on the requirements set by the Federal Communications Commission and an extensive record in this case developed from the telecommunications providers, consumer advocates, PSC staff and comments from the public.”
