Knupp & Watson: Kicks-off Goodstock

24-hour advertising marathon provides free services

to Dane County nonprofit organizations

MADISON, Wis. – October 28, 2004 – Thirty-five years ago 400,000 people converged in New York for the three day festival of peace and music known as Woodstock. The employees of a Madison-based advertising agency plan to channel that brand of self-expression, community and goodwill by working pro bono for 24 hours straight on behalf of Dane County nonprofit organizations.

Knupp & Watson, a full-service marketing, advertising and public relations agency, today announced the launch of its first-ever Goodstock™ event. “We are thrilled to be able to give back to the community and help the people who work so hard to make Dane County a better place to live,” said president Ted Knupp. “Our staff is eager to assist as many area nonprofits as possible in the 24-hour period. And yes, we’ll also have the Woodstock tunes cranked to keep our energy up.”

The agency built a unique understanding of the financial, creative and strategic challenges nonprofits face over its eighteen years marketing social causes. The company will provide free advertising services to selected nonprofit organizations in Dane County from 3:00 p.m. Thursday, December 16 to 3:00 p.m. Friday, December 17.

“Goodstock is part of our ongoing commitment to help organizations that might not have the funds to develop their own marketing materials,” said vice president Jan Watson. Knupp & Watson currently provides pro bono services to the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce, Madison Children’s Museum, UW Vet School Dog Jog, Wisconsin Women’s Health Foundation and the Wisconsin School Music Association. “We hope Goodstock becomes a tradition that our staff and the community can look forward to year after year.”

Nonprofit organizations selected for Goodstock will work collaboratively with the agency on posters, marketing plans, radio scripts and other advertising deliverables. Knupp & Watson is also working with area vendors to generate donated or reduced price services to complete projects, such as printing, media placement and broadcast production.

The selected groups are also invited to participate in on-site training seminars on overcoming cause marketing challenges, building relationships with broadcast media, public relations best practices and research applications for nonprofits. All Dane County organizations with nonprofit/501c3 status are encouraged to apply. Applications are available at www.knupp-watson.com/goodstock or 608.232.2300. The deadline to apply is November 15, 2004. Winners will be announced November 18.
