“I am pleased to hear the news from the Department of
Revenue today that the total revenue collections for the fiscal year were
$69 million over the $10.6 billion estimate from February 2004. These new
revenue figures show that my ‘Grow Wisconsin’ plan is working, but there is
still more work to do.

“Under ‘Grow Wisconsin,’ I signed the most aggressive
regulatory reform in the Midwest, eliminated the tax on creating jobs, and
expanded access to venture capital. These revenue figures show those
efforts are starting to have a positive economic effect, but we must remain
vigilant to ensure continued growth. Following years of fiscal
irresponsibility by previous Administrations and the Legislature, we are
back on the path to fiscal stability.

“While I am pleased we are above the previous revenue
projections, it remains clear that tough choices will need to be made in the
next budget to keep Wisconsin competitive and provide the best return to
taxpayers.”
