Madison – Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Secretary Roberta Gassman today announced that six of Wisconsin’s Workforce Development Boards will receive $1.6 million in Special Response Grant funds to assist dislocated workers in finding new employment or new job skills.
“Despite improvements in Wisconsin’s labor market over the past several months, some Wisconsin workers are still struggling to get back into the workforce,” said Secretary Gassman. “This additional funding allows for the continuation of services these dislocated workers need to get back into employment.”
The funds will help approximately 2,500 dislocated workers throughout Wisconsin, who have suffered significant setbacks in their job markets, to continue re-training and to receive placement and other re-employment assistance.
The funds can provide services that include assessment, case management, training, job development, placement and supportive services such as relocation assistance, transportation and child care, in addition to continuing education.
The Workforce Development Boards receiving funds for workers affected in their areas and the amount they received are:
Waukesha-Ozaukee-Washington WDA: $400,000
Fox Valley WDA: $61,669
North Central WDA: $164,000
West Central WDA: $142,040
Western WDA: $275,000
South Central WDA: $287,743
