MADISON – Gov. Jim Doyle today announced that Juneau County will receive a $24,750 Community Development Block Grant – Public Facilities (CDBG-PF) from the department of Commerce (Commerce) for assisting with planning a business incubator.

“My Grow Wisconsin plan calls for promoting entrepreneurship,” said Gov. Doyle. “This grant will allow Juneau County to develop a plan that will help create an environment where startup businesses can flourish.”

The plan will address the feasibility of using a former Western Wisconsin Technical College building, located in Mauston’s west industrial park, as the site for a proposed business incubator. The plan will also explore options regarding ownership, governance and staffing of the facility. The total project cost is $33,000.

Commerce has administered the federally funded CDBG-PF Program since 1982. These grants play an important role in helping communities finance a wide range of projects designed to enhance the economic vitality of the community through the expansion of the tax base, job creation, and increased private investment in downtowns. Grants are awarded to projects that will primarily benefit low- and moderate-income residents. For further information on the CDBG-PF Program contact James Frymark, Commerce, at 608/266-2742.
