PosiPair: Organizing the green business awards this weekend

Local Start-Up Company Creates the 1st Ever Green Business Awards at the WI Going Green Expo

PosiPair, a website for green businesses started by UW-Madison grad student, Sarah Manski, and local attorney Ben Manski, announced today that they’re organizing the first ever Green Business Awards for this weekend’s Wisconsin Going Green Expo in partnership with Madison Magazine.

The three awards are:

* The 100% Award, given to the greenest overall business.

* The Transformation Award, given to the business that’s made the biggest industry-changing breakthrough.

* The Community Award, given to the business that has demonstrated the greatest social & community responsibility.

Almost 10,000 people are expected to attend this year’s expo. PosiPair will have a computer voting station at their exhibit where attendees can vote for their favorite green business picks.

In keeping with the expo and PosiPair’s vision for a sustainable future, the three awards plaques will be made by Total Awards & Promotions, Inc. from recycled and reclaimed materials, like old newspapers and sunflower seed shells. There will even be prizes for those who vote. Some of these prizes include: $150 Gift Certificate toward Private Pilates & Bodywork Sessions from 4Pillars4Health EcoSpace, LLC, $130 plus a gift certificate from The Kitchen Gallery, LLC, and a gift basket of toys from Bad Dog Frida.

PosiPair is a new online retail and networking platform that connects green businesses, shoppers, and non-profits in the growing Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability market. Until PosiPair’s services go live later this year, their introductory website informs potential investors and customers of the benefits offered by the company, and provides an opportunity to join PosiPair’s wait list.

PosiPair’s mantra is “Positive Product Pairing,” a trademark phrase that describes the unique service the company provides. PosiPair provides businesses with online profiles for themselves and their products, displaying their products’ lifecycles, linking to business partners, highlighting their eco-labels, blogging on their green business practices, and using a shopping cart to engage in direct sales. PosiPair enables consumers to review businesses and products, set up personal profile pages, and search by industry, certification standards, location, supply chain, and more.

“Madison businesses are leading the country in developing new technologies and going green,” said Sarah Manski, CEO and co-founder of PosiPair. “We are thrilled to celebrate these efforts and award those businesses that are doing good for people and the planet.”

PosiPair solves two pressing challenges to green economic innovation. First, green businesses lack a convenient means to use the web’s capacity to help them reach target audiences, improve service, connect with business partners, and increase sales. Second, shoppers looking for green products need a fresh, responsive alternative to the current “everybody’s green” advertising free-for-all. By making the web more accessible and acceptable to genuinely green businesses, and by bringing more eyes to bear in evaluating public representations of green business practices, PosiPair’s online community offers a new solution.

“The shift to a green economy is coming from two directions at once. From the bottom, rising up, the green movement provided the entrepreneurial ethic that made everything from Fair Trade to organics mainstream. From the top, reaching down, the establishment has begun to act on the imperative of sustainability. PosiPair will be where these two forces meet.” said Ben Manski, PosiPair’s CVO.
