MILWAUKEE – The Wisconsin Special Committee on Domestic Biofuels on Wednesday voted to send a number of bills to the full Legislative Council that would help grow the Bio Industry in Wisconsin.
“I’d like to thank Senator Pat Kreitlow, Representative Scott Suder, and all of the other members of the Domestic Biofuels committee for their efforts in putting together these pieces of of legislation,” said Joshua Morby, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance (WBIA).
Among the legislation passed through the committee today is a tax credit that helps gas stations pay for the costs of implementing pumps capable of dispensing multiple blends of ethanol and gasoline, as well as bills that would promote the use of flex-fuel vehicles, provide financial assistance for the installation of biomass boilers in bio fuel facilities, and assess available biomass opportunities for bio power generation.
Two members of the WBIA, Steve Christensen of Western Wisconsin Energy in Boyceville and Jeremy Goodfellow of Sanimax in De Forest, are members of the committee, which also includes representatives from environmental groups, the University of Wisconsin, and businesses from across the state.
“The Bio Industry offers an opportunity for Wisconsin to not only grow its economy, but improve our environment at the same time,” Morby said. “Hopefully, members of the State Legislature will work quickly to pass many of the pieces of legislation approved today, and provide an extra boost to this emerging industry.”
The Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance is a diverse group of businesses, environmental groups, and statewide and local organizations that have come together to build both public and legislative awareness of the Bio Industry in Wisconsin.
