Madison – Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Secretary Roberta Gassman announced today that the Waukesha Child Support Agency (CSA) recently teamed up with the Los Angeles County Child Support Services Department (CSSD) to collect a lump sum $300,000 support payment from a parent living in California. The other parent and child reside in Waukesha County in Wisconsin.

“Wisconsin ranks as one of the best child support collection states in the nation,” said Secretary Gassman. “This large payment is an excellent example of state-to-state collaborative efforts by child support agencies across the nation, all of whom are focused on providing for the needs of children.”

When the parent and child relocated to Waukesha County in Wisconsin in 2001 and requested child support services, Wisconsin child support officials asked the Interstate Division of the Los Angeles’ CSSD to enforce the child support provisions of a 1989 California divorce order. The order required the non-custodial parent, a Los Angeles County resident, to pay child support of $1000 per month for one child, who is currently 15 years old. After several enforcement actions, the non custodial parent arranged to pay off the entire accrued delinquency. The $300,000 lump sum was forwarded to Wisconsin Support Collections Trust Fund who will send it to the custodial parent.

Currently, more than $2 billion in past-due support is owed in Wisconsin. For more information about Child Support in Wisconsin, visit childsupport.wisconsin.gov.
