Expanded Employment and Training Services Will Benefit More Than 4,900 Workers

MADISON – Governor Jim Doyle today announced nearly $4 million in assistance for dislocated workers, providing expanded employment and training services available to them through 10 regional Workforce Development Boards.

“This funding will help employees increase their skills and attain new employment sooner,” Governor Doyle said. “We will be able to offer retraining and reemployment services tailored to meet the needs of individual workers, connecting workers to available jobs or providing new skills to prepare them for their next job.”

Grants total $3,974,709 in federal dislocated worker funds, including $1,821,617 available under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The assistance will benefit more than 4,900 workers affected by layoffs at 104 companies across Wisconsin.

Dislocated workers are encouraged to contact their local Job Centers for assistance that can include testing, career counseling, retraining and job placement. The location of the nearest job center can be determined by calling toll-free 1-888-258-9966 or visiting the Department of Workforce Development’s website at http://www.wisconsinjobcenter.org/directory/.
