Quincy Bioscience: Jellyfish protein – memory product now available at GNC

Quincy Bioscience (Madison, WI) announces that Prevagen® (http://www.prevagen.com), a dietary supplement made with the jellyfish protein apoaequorin, is now available in select GNC stores across the US. Developed within the University Research Park in Madison, Wisconsin, Prevagen is the breakthrough discovery that can protect brain cells and has shown to enhance memory.

According to Quincy Bioscience, initial distribution will put Prevagen in GNC’s best 600 locations to meet consumer demand for anti-aging and memory boosting products. Mark Underwood, President of Quincy Bioscience, said, “We are thrilled to partner with GNC, a leader in the nutritional products industry. They are well known for quality products and their number of locations throughout the country makes it easier for consumers to get Prevagen close to home.”

Quincy Bioscience has been researching the jellyfish protein apoaequorin for the past twelve years. Findings suggest that supplementation with apoaequorin, a well-known calcium-binding protein, might address the age-related deficits in memory. Human trials have shown that a majority of healthy individuals studied reported benefits in memory, energy, mood and quality of sleep. By protecting the brain at a cellular level, the brain can work optimally across its various functions.

The jellyfish protein is very similar to the calcium-binding proteins found in the human nervous system which become depleted in age-related memory conditions. Data demonstrating the protein’s ability to safely protect brain cells was first presented at the Society for Neuroscience meeting in 2006.

“The company has made a transition from being a research and development biotechnology company to a more mature integrated consumer product company,” added Underwood. “Our continued research and development efforts help to expand our markets for our platform technology. The future will be very exciting.”
