NEW YORK, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ — Gonzalez Saggio & Harlan LLP, one of the nation’s largest minority-owned law firms, announced today that the firm has expanded its national footprint by opening an office in New York City, the firm’s ninth. Philip C. Berg and Angela K. Dorn, formerly of Berg & Dorn Law Partners, will join Gonzalez Saggio & Harlan as managing partners for the New York office.

Gonzalez Saggio & Harlan’s expansion into New York strengthens the firm’s existing Real Estate, Employment, and Corporate & Transactional Groups and opens the door to new corporate and municipal clients based in the New York metropolitan area. Important existing clients include national companies such as Accenture, Limited Brands and Summit Business Media.

“Nearly everyone would agree that New York is both the legal and business epicenter of the United States,” said Emery Harlan, Partner of Gonzalez Saggio & Harlan. “As our firm continues to grow aggressively, expanding into New York was the logical next step. Philip Berg and Angela Dorn bring a unique combination of experience, client relationships and cultural fit which made them a perfect complement to our firm. We look forward to further penetrating the New York metro-area legal community and applying our distinctive skills, capabilities and ethics to our new client engagements.”

Philip C. Berg has nearly two decades of experience in the areas of corporate transactions, general corporate law and data privacy compliance. Prior to forming Berg & Dorn Law Partners, Berg served as a corporate attorney at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP, and subsequently helped build KKR’s media holding company into what is now PRIMEDIA Inc. as part of the corporate legal and transactional teams at PRIMEDIA. He has overseen more than one billion dollars in transactions over the course of his career and has extensive experience advising and negotiating multi-million dollar real estate transactions. Additionally, he has broad corporate and commercial contracts experience. Berg earned his J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School and his B.A. from the University of Virginia.

Prior to forming Berg & Dorn Law Partners, Dorn worked as a corporate attorney at Mayer Brown & Platt, where she defended Fortune 100 companies — including Ford Motor Company, United Airlines and Chubb Insurance — against ERISA claims and in class-action and multi-plaintiff discrimination lawsuits. She has also worked with small and mid-sized businesses and not-for-profit organizations such as the NAACP, the City of Chicago and the Catholic Church and has developed specialized expertise in employment privacy issues. Dorn previously served as General Counsel of Fletcher Asset Management, where she oversaw all legal, compliance and employment policy issues for more than 20 portfolio companies. Dorn earned her J.D. from Harvard Law School and her A.B. from Harvard College.

“By joining Gonzalez Saggio & Harlan, Phil and I have partnered with a firm that shares our values, ethics and level of expertise. We had been observing GSH’s strong growth over the past few years, and when we were approached to join, we knew this was the right move. GSH is already a “go-to” firm for several Fortune 250 companies. The firm provides expert legal services to corporations and city and state governments across the United States. New York City, with its many corporate and governmental headquarters, was clearly ripe for GSH’s expertise and client-focused services,” said Angela Dorn.

“Gonzalez Saggio & Harlan’s 20 years of successful growth and mission-driven work have not only encouraged women and people of color to be active participants in the field of law, but to seek and achieve nationwide success and industry-wide recognition,” concluded Dorn.
