GREEN BAY – Governor Jim Doyle today joined representatives from the UnitedHealth Group to announce the opening of a new call center in Green Bay that will create 1,000 new jobs. Governor Doyle made the announcement at the former AMS headquarters that was acquired by UnitedHealth Group in December.

“UnitedHealth’s decision to have the call center here in Green Bay is a reflection of the high quality workforce that Wisconsin has to offer and the positive business climate we have created in Wisconsin,” Governor Doyle said. “I applaud UnitedHealth Group for investing in the Green Bay community and bringing one-thousand new jobs to Brown County.”

UnitedHealth Group, a Fortune 50 company that offers individual and employer-based health care coverage options and a broad spectrum of Medicare offerings, cites the quality work done by customer service personnel in Green Bay during the chaotic Medicare Part D application process as a deciding factor in choosing the Green Bay location.

“We’re focused on providing coverage that is customer-friendly and easy to use, so it is important to provide our members with timely and accurate information,” said Jay Fulkerson, president and chief executive officer of UnitedHealthcare of Wisconsin. “Customer service representatives at our call centers play a critical role in providing information on health care coverage and are often the first line of help in providing information on the array of products and services we offer.”

UnitedHealth Group will invest in new technology and transform the former AMS headquarters in Green Bay into a state-of-the art call center. The call center will provide customer service support for people who have Medicare Part D plans or other employer-sponsored health insurance. In addition, the building will hold employees who support the company’s IT operations and other assorted functions.

A total of 1,000 new UnitedHealth employees will be added to the Green Bay operation in 2006 and 2007. In addition to the jobs in Green Bay, UnitedHealth Group employs another 1,600 workers statewide.

UnitedHealth Group acquired the former AMS headquarters when it merged with PacifiCare Health Systems last December. Prior to acquisition, AMS had approximately 1,287 full and part-time employees in Green Bay.
