–Set for 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 12 at the Madison Club, Madison, Wis.–

MADISON – A WisBusiness.com panel discussion on Wednesday Oct. 12 will examine the future of broadband in Wisconsin.

The panel discussion comes in the wake of the major telecommunications regulation update signed into law earlier this year by Gov. Scott Walker, more federal grants to local telcos in Wisconsin for broadband, and the proposed merger between AT&T and T-Mobile.

The lead sponsor of the WisBusiness.com-organized event is the Internet Innovation Alliance, a national coalition comprised of business and non-profit groups promoting universal broadband Internet access. The Wisconsin Technology Council, which provides policy guidance to state lawmakers, the governor, state agencies and other institutions in Wisconsin, also supports the event.

Members of the Wisconsin Technology Council (as well as the Wisconsin Innovation Network and the Wisconsin Angel Network) and subscribers to WisPolitics.com and WisBusiness.com may attend at no cost. Others will pay a modest fee for a buffet lunch and beverages.

The panel includes:

— State Rep. Mark Honadel, R-South Milwaukee, chair of the Assembly Committee on Energy and Utilities;

— The Internet Innovation Alliance Senior Advisor Broderick Johnson, a former House of Representatives staffer and informal presidential campaign adviser to Barack Obama in 2008 who most recently was a partner at Bryan Cave, the international law firm, where he headed the public policy and government affairs group;

— Brian Rybarik, Administrator of the Wisconsin Public Service Commission’s Telecommunications Div.;

— Jim Rabbitt, director of government relations at Cooperative Network and former director at the Wisconsin Bureau of Consumer Protection.
