UW Office of Business and Entrepreneurship: Free small business clinic May 1 in Kenosha

(MADISON, WI) ––The Office of Business & Entrepreneurship (OBE) along with the Wisconsin Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and the Innovation Center in Kenosha will host a Small Business Clinic – free to all participants – on Friday, May 1, at the Innovation Center in Kenosha.

This FREE Small Business Clinic will take place from 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM and is a ‘choose-your- own-adventure’ for entrepreneurs. Come for the day or for a specific session. Participants can schedule 30-minute individual sessions with consultants to discuss starting a business, financials, marketing, home baking businesses, international trade, and even legal matters in a group setting. The clinic will include educational sessions on business planning, taxes, workforce development, financial record keeping, legal topics, digital marketing, and artificial intelligence (A.I.).

“At Kenosha Innovation Neighborhood, this is exactly why we exist,” said Kelly Armstrong, president, KIN. “We know small business owners need more than inspiration. They need access to practical guidance, trusted expertise, and real connections that help them move forward.

This clinic brings those pieces together in a meaningful way; it reflects what we work to build every day: An environment where entrepreneurs can access the tools they need, build confidence, and take the next step in growing their business.”

“Starting or growing a business can feel overwhelming, but entrepreneurs don’t have to navigate it alone,” said Dan Brosman, Strategic Projects Associate Director with the Office of Business & Entrepreneurship and event organizer. “The Small Business Clinic brings experienced advisors and practical resources together so business owners can get the guidance they need to move forward.”

In addition to the 30-minute appointments, participants may choose to attend lecture-style group sessions featuring General Business Law with UW Madison’s Law & Entrepreneurship Clinic, Business Planning 101, Financial Records, Statements and Strategy, A.I. for Your Business, LLC Formation Lab, Food Finance Institute and Cottage Industry 101, Optimizing Your Business Marketing Strategy, Business Taxes with the Department of Revenue, and Entrepreneurial Resources in your Local Library.

Nora Roughen-Schmidt (ROWAN-Schmidt) serves as one of the event organizers and as a business consultant with the State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI). She will be available for free and confidential small business consulting that day. To schedule time with her contact her via email: nora.roughen-schmidt@business.wisconsin.edu.

“Whether you’re curious about where to start, or you’re ready to make a leap, our experts are here to offer trusted insights and industry-specific advice, free of charge,” added Roughen Schmidt. “Small Business Clinics give participants the opportunity to check off everything on their to-do lists through education, inspiration, and resources, whether you’re starting a business or expanding an existing business.”
