MILWAUKEE — A free, family-friendly outdoor music series in support of veterans continues Saturday, Aug. 8, at Milwaukee’s lakefront.
Presented by the Southeastern Wisconsin Veteran Suicide Prevention Task Force, “Music in the Garden” will be 1-4 p.m. in the War Memorial Beer Garden, northeast of the War Memorial building, 750 N. Lincoln Memorial Drive.
Craft beer and German specialties from Kegel’s Inn will be available for purchase. No outside food or drink is allowed.
Performing will be Brooklyn Marti, a singer/songwriter who performs music from multiple genres, ranging from acoustic singer/songwriter to pop punk.
The series will conclude Sept. 12 with featured act Funny Man Sherman.
Resources for Veterans
In addition to music and refreshments, the event offers a great way for veterans to connect with valuable resources and each other.
“While enjoying music by the lake is great, this event also serves as a way for veterans to reconnect and swap stories,” said Laura Acompanado, suicide prevention coordinator at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center. “In addition, organizations that provide services for Veterans will be on hand to help veterans get the benefits they deserve.”
More than a dozen groups will have information available at the event, including the Milwaukee VA, Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs, Vet Center, Veterans Benefits Administration and Veterans Upward Bound.
