GREEN BAY, Wis. — Travelers and racing enthusiasts passing through Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport (GRB) are getting an up-close look at motorsport engineering this week. In celebration of a milestone five-year partnership between the airport and Road America, an official INDYCAR race car is currently stationed on public display near the terminal’s main entrance. The vehicle will remain on-site through June 21, offering the community a unique visual experience ahead of the upcoming XPEL INDYCAR Grand Prix presented by AMR in Elkhart Lake.
Because the high-performance vehicle is positioned before airport security checkpoints, the display is completely accessible to the general public. Local residents, racing purists, and traveling families are encouraged to visit the terminal, admire the vehicle, and capture a memorable selfie alongside a piece of elite racing history.
Over the last five years, GRB and Road America have actively collaborated to promote regional tourism, working hand-in-hand to streamline travel logistics for thousands of race fans flying into Northeast Wisconsin. As a primary aviation gateway for the region, GRB has served as a critical hub connecting national and international visitors to the historic venue in Elkhart Lake.
“We are absolutely thrilled to host the Road America INDYCAR here at GRB, and the response from the public has been incredible,” said GRB Airport Director Marty Piette. “Every single day, we watch passengers completely stop in their tracks to admire the sleek lines and intense engineering of this machine. It brings a wonderful, high-energy atmosphere into our terminal and serves as a perfect visual reminder of the world-class sporting events available right here in our region.”
The strategic synergy between the airport and the legendary permanent road course has yielded measurable economic impacts for Brown County and the surrounding municipalities, bolstering passenger volumes during peak summer racing schedules.
“Our collaborative partnership with Road America has generated an undeniable competitive advantage for our regional transportation network,” stated Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach. “Over the past five years, we have seen a distinct, recurring increase in passengers choosing GRB as their preferred airport before and after they enjoy an action-packed race week in Elkhart Lake. By choosing to fly local, fans enjoy a seamless, stress-free travel experience that mirrors the top-tier hospitality they experience trackside.”
Road America’s leadership emphasized that robust, reliable transportation infrastructure remains important to cultivating both the next generation of racing fans and sustaining its deeply loyal, long-time community of spectators.
“Getting new and old fans safely, quickly, and efficiently to and from the track is at the absolute core of what we do,” said Road America President and General Manager Mike Kertscher. “The journey to a legendary race weekend begins long before the green flag drops, and having GRB as an elite air service partner ensures our fans receive an exceptional experience the moment they land in Wisconsin. This INDYCAR display is a symbol of our shared commitment to regional excellence, and we invite everyone to come see it before it heads out.”
The INDYCAR display will officially conclude on Sunday, June 21 at 12:00 p.m., at which point the car will return to operational race environments. Visitors planning to view the car can utilize the airport’s short-term parking structures for quick access to the main terminal entrance.
