— The Trump administration has disrupted $2 billion in federal grants in Wisconsin, including hundreds of millions going to health-related efforts, according to a new tracking tool.
The Lost Funds website is from the nonprofit States United Democracy Center and Grant Witness organizations, detailing impacts on federal funding across the country from the Trump administration’s cost-cutting efforts.
The tool has tracked $352.5 million in grants for health organizations and programs in the state that have either been cancelled or frozen, out of a total $1 billion in expected funding.
That’s in addition to $455.6 million in funding for infectious disease control in Wisconsin that was “selectively terminated,” the tool shows, noting those affected include children, older adults and tribal organizations.
Meanwhile, about $267.3 million in federal funding for pollution reduction initiatives in the state and $166.8 million for food and nutrition has been disrupted, according to the tool.
At the national level, the tracker estimates the total impact to federal funding at $177 billion, including $58.9 billion for health-related grants.

— The Medical College of Wisconsin has inaugurated Dr. Shekar Kurpad as its new president and CEO, succeeding former leader Dr. John Raymond.
The college yesterday held a ceremony in Milwaukee to recognize Kurpad, a neurosurgeon who specializes in treating spinal and cranial disorders. He’s also led research in this area through a laboratory at MCW, serving as principal investigator on multiple projects.
In comments provided by MCW, Kurpad said the college has an opportunity to “connect our strengths in new ways” and build on collaborative efforts.
“If we do this together, we will become a destination for health, built on discovery, dedicated to care, powered by education, and strengthened by community partnerships, with one shared purpose: improving health for all,” he said.
