Door County, WI – Door County Land Trust will host its Annual Gathering on August 21st from 2-5 pm at the Pasture across from Frank E. Murphy Park. This year’s Gathering marks a special occasion as the organization celebrates 40 years of conservation.
The event will honor the organization’s past four decades protecting Door County’s exceptional lands and waters and will also serve as the official community kickoff to an exciting new effort to protect a large piece of land in Southern Door as the organization’s 16th public nature preserve.
“This year’s Annual Gathering is all about showing up for the lands we love,” said Executive Director Emily Wood. “We will honor our founding members and past successes while also looking towards the future. As we enter our most ambitious decade yet, government funding is falling away, which makes this a pivotal moment for conservation in Door County.”
Door County residents and visitors alike are invited to join the celebration by purchasing a ticket, which includes a Mediterranean buffet, desserts, live music, a special “open house” of the Horseshoe Bay Cave, refreshments including wine and Bridge Up Brewing Co. beer, and general camaraderie in a beautiful setting. Tickets are $55 and youth tickets (children under 18) are available for $25.
The cave tour is an exciting addition to this year’s Annual Gathering program. Jennifer Redell, a Cave and Mine Specialist and Conservation Biologist with the WI Bat Program, will greet attendees at the entrance of the Horseshoe Bay Cave and provide a shortened tour between 2-3 pm exclusively for Annual Gathering guests. There will be an option for guests to enter the cave and make the 30’ crawl inside to view the Cloak Room.
This year’s Annual Gathering program will center on a collective fundraising effort called “The Giving Creek.” The Land Trust will have paper frogs, fish, ferns, and birds available for purchase, which donors can buy to help complete a creek scene inspired by the Southern Door property they aim to protect as the 16th nature preserve.
