Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin: Expands vasectomy services to Madison

Madison, Wis. – Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin (PPWI) is expanding vasectomy services to serve Madison and the surrounding communities. PPWI began providing safe, affordable, no-scalpel vasectomy services at its Milwaukee Water Street Health Center in 2023 and will now offer the same services at the Madison East Health Center.

“Now more than ever, people are looking for ways to show up in support of reproductive rights and take a more active role in their family planning,” said Tanya Atkinson, President and CEO of PPWI. “The expansion of vasectomy services to Madison comes at a critical time when access to sexual and reproductive health care, including abortion, is increasingly out of reach. We are proud to expand vasectomy services and help ensure people have the resources they need to make decisions for their own bodies, lives, and futures.”

PPWI is working with local physicians to provide this service at its Madison East Health Center two days a month.

“In the two years PPWI has been able to provide vasectomy services in Milwaukee, we have had hundreds of appointments serving individuals of all ages and backgrounds,” said PPWI Chief Medical Officer Dr. Allison Linton. “I am proud that Planned Parenthood is able to provide the full spectrum of reproductive care to a new area of the state.”

Vasectomy is a safe and effective form of contraception. The procedure is quick, and patients can go home the same day. It is extremely effective at preventing pregnancy — almost 100%. Vasectomy does not protect against STIs, so use of condoms is recommended for prevention.

The procedure is covered by most commercial insurance providers, Medicaid, BadgerCare, and WI DHS Family Planning Only Services (with some restrictions).
