Zero6 Energy and Faith Technologies Incorporated (FTI) partner on more than $879K in WEVI funds for EV charging
CHANHASSEN, Minn. (Dec. 4, 2024)— Zero6 Energy, a leader in clean energy development and investment, announced that they have been awarded $879,169 by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) in their first round of Wisconsin Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (WEVI) funding. WEVI received approval from the U.S. Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) for its plan to expand its electric vehicle (EV) charging stations under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program.
The award is for an EV charging station at Culver’s restaurant in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, along a state designated fuel corridor. The four-port charger will be capable of charging up to four vehicles at 160kW per vehicle, simultaneously.
Zero6 Energy will finance, own and operate the charging station. FTI will engineer, design, develop, install and commission the site, integrating ChargePoint® hardware and software. FTI service technicians will also maintain and optimize the charging station after installation to ensure uptime and advance consumer confidence.
“Zero6 and our partners at FTI are building out an EV fast-charging network that offers drivers high-quality service and helps alleviate range anxiety,” said Clay Norrbom, president of Zero6 Energy. “Our companies have worked together for a decade building and investing in wind, solar and other clean energy generation. This project represents a large step forward on our latest initiative around EV charging infrastructure.”
“With FTI’s headquarters in Wisconsin, we’re extremely proud to be a part of the state’s very first round of NEVI funding,” said Wade Leipold, FTI executive vice president. “Installing this EV charging station at Culver’s, another strong Wisconsin-based company, is a testament to the type of progressive actions being taken by Midwest organizations.”
As individuals and organizations move to EVs in support of environmental goals, ensuring readily available charging is critical. Charging stations at popular, familiar sites along common highway corridors provide convenient EV charging opportunities.
“We’re excited to partner with Culver’s to bring EV charging to their popular Rhinelander restaurant,” said Geri Waack, director of eMobility solutions. “Their customers will have the opportunity to easily charge their electric vehicles while enjoying a meal with family or friends.”
FTI has been designing and installing EV charging stations for many years within the EV segment, driving innovation and capability. Depending on site logistics, systems may be built on site or may incorporate eSkids™, which are built offsite by the organization’s manufacturing division, Excellerate®, and delivered to the site ready to be installed.
Engineering and design of the Rhinelander Culver’s site will begin immediately, with plans to complete installation by summer of 2025. NEVI guidelines require that all awarded sites be completed within five years.
