Green Bay, WI – On Saturday, February 17 at 6 p.m. UW-Green Bay, Marinette will feature artist Farah Siraj in a free community concert taking place at Theatre on The Bay. This concert is a part of the World Fest series program, a project of Arts Midwest and the National Endowment for the Arts that connects Midwestern communities to international musicians. Marinette/Menominee is one of nine Midwestern communities to be selected as a World Fest community for the next three years and will host six international ensembles during this time.
World Fest hopes to foster an understanding of and appreciation for global uniqueness and differences, with an emphasis on rural communities across the Midwest. Since World Fest’s inception in 2003, they have served more than 650,000 individuals throughout nine Midwest states. They have supported more than 280 public performances and over 2,300 educational events.
For this coming musical residency, Marinette will host Jordan’s Musical Ambassadress and Virtuoso Farah Siraj. Siraj balances a career that spans the United States, Europe, and Southwest Asia. Her music combines influences from Arabic music, flamenco, jazz, bossa nova, and pop. She is known worldwide not only for her music, but for her humanitarian efforts as well, as she advocates for women’s rights, refugee rights, and animal rights.
