MARSHFIELD – Security Health Plan is one of five Medicare plans in Wisconsin to receive an overall rating of 4.5 out of 5 by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Medicare Health Plan Ratings 2023. The annual Health Plan Ratings evaluate Commercial, Medicare and Medicaid health plans in Wisconsin and nationwide. Security Health Plan once again rated high for its Commercial and Medicaid plans as well.

Below is a summary of Security Health Plan’s ratings by category in the 2023 NCQA Health Insurance Plan Ratings:

  • Security Health Plan’s Medicare Advantage plans were rated 4.5 out of 5 in NCQA’s Medicare Health Plan Ratings 2023.

  • Security Health Plan’s Medicaid plans are rated 4 out of 5 in NCQA’s Medicaid Health Plan Ratings 2023.

“To be rated among NCQA’s top-rated health plans in Wisconsin and nationwide once again is a great honor,” Security Health Plan Chief Executive Officer Krista Hoglund said. “These ratings are determined through rigorous objective analysis that includes feedback from our members. This is a direct reflection of our ongoing mission and commitment to provide high-quality health care coverage, service excellence and access to care for our members. I am grateful to work with a team at Security Health Plan that consistently delivers their best to our members. We work hard to develop and maintain strong relationships with our network providers and are proud to partner with them to ensure our members receive the best in health care and insurance coverage so they may lead happy and healthy lives.”

NCQA first released ratings in 2005 and since that time Security Health Plan has earned top ratings and continues to every year. The annual ratings are based on three types of quality measures:

  1. Clinical quality from NCQA’s Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®) and Health Outcome Survey (HOS).
  2. Patient experience using the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS®).
  3. Results from NCQA’s review of a health plan’s health clinical performance and member experience (NCQA Accreditation).

NCQA rates health plans that choose to report measures publicly.

“Security Health Plan is dedicated to providing our members with high-quality health plans that offer insurance solutions for members of all ages. We continue to implement new programs and services to assist our members in medication adherence, preventive screenings and condition management to ensure our members have access to and receive the highest quality care and service,” said Paula Jacobson, director of quality at Security Health Plan.

Security Health Plan’s ratings are a result of the quality measures mentioned above. The Medicare Advantage plan rated high in a few key categories:

  • Members are receiving recommended immunizations for influenza and pneumonia.
  • Medicare Advantage members reported satisfaction with the coordination of their care).
  • Members are receiving recommended screenings for breast and colorectal cancer.
  • Members with chronic conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes are receiving the recommended services to treat their conditions.

“We are honored to be recognized for our dedication to ensuring our members have the resources, care and services they need from their health care plan,” said Security Health Plan Chief Medical Officer Mary Davis, M.D. “We consistently put our members first and proactively educate them about recommended services and screenings so they can stay ahead of any potential health care challenges. I am thrilled Security Health Plan has once again been recognized at the national level.”
