Milwaukee Public Schools: City of Milwaukee residents invited to celebrate Public Schools Week February 27 – March 3

(MILWAUKEE) – Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson has proclaimed this week Public Schools Week in Milwaukee. Educators, school leaders, and public education advocates invite the community to join the City of Milwaukee and MPS to celebrate Public Schools Week, February 27 to March 3, 2023. The week coincides with a national observance to highlight and show support for public schools, which educate nine out of ten children in the United States.

“Milwaukee’s public school system is an integral part of our city,” said Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson. “Public schools provide a framework for the future, providing education, career pathways, special needs supports, and the personal growth that comes from athletics, clubs, arts, music, theater, leadership, and other experiences that any child from any walk of life can access.”

Public Schools Week will shine a light on the many things that make public schools special, including dedicated educators and staff. The teaching and learning in our local K-12 public schools positively impacts students and families, the neighborhoods and communities they live in, and our nation as a whole. With commitment, creativity, and critical thinking, educators and school leaders continue to provide welcoming and engaging learning opportunities for our children.

“MPS is dedicated to preparing each student for success,” said Dr. Keith P. Posley, MPS Superintendent. “We offer rigorous curricula as well as an extensive network of programs that prepare students for post-secondary education, career opportunities, and lifelong learning. The work we do benefits the entire community, providing a variety of resources to students, families and residents, including community partnerships and recreational opportunities.”

Community members are encouraged to show their public school pride throughout the week by wearing their school colors or garb, wearing MPS blue and gold, and sharing memories of their current or past school days on social media.
